Documentary about the bizarre kidnapping case in 1973, when the Symbionese Liberation Army terrorist group sought to overthrow the US Government and kidnapped newspaper heiress Patty Hearst, provoking a nationwide media frenzy. Matters became even more strange when Hearst was caught on CCTV helping her erstwhile captors in a daring bank robbery, apparently having joined their revolutionary crusade. Exploring the SLA's two-year crime spree, the documentary lays bare a period when political ideologies ran amok, and when modern political terrorism, fuelled by a sensationalist media, became seductively romantic.
